What are some of the things we have learned about Blogs?


Main difference between a wiki and a blog:  the way the is formated and edited.

"Wikis allow the main content to be edited by the users but it is much more difficult to see the sequence of comments compared with a blog" (Sandars, 2006).  Professions in which advances occur quite frequently, such as medicine or technology, would demand that the readers and users have the most current information to review, making a blog the more effective choice for collaboration in those fields.
To me, "one of the most important benefits is that blogs create the opportunity for interaction; it is a 'virtual tutorial'"(Sandars, 2006).  Gina 6/07/12

How does learning occur on Blogs?

Critical thinking skills are effectively increased through blog work via both cognitive and social construction (Wake & Modia, 2012).  Cognitive construction makes sense of new information based on prior knowledge, however social construction promotes promotes new knowledge through collaboration of learners in heterogeneous groups (Wake & Modia, 2012).

Blogs promote professional development:

"Blogs present a platform for teachers to improve themselves through interaction with others"  (Murugaiah et at, 2010).  It is the belief of this blog's creators that diversity increases and enhances this affect.  See our diversity slide show:
